At the height of the watch industry crisis, when quartz had taken the world by storm and collectors were investing in more affordable wristwatches - Raymond Weil stood true to technical watchmaking. Upon the company’s inception in 1976, it had one vision – to craft affordable luxury timepieces using traditional watchmaking methods. Amateurs and connoisseurs alike began opening their eyes once again to authentic watch manufacture; with a distinct appreciation for watches that stood for something meaningful and felt substantial on the wrist.
Raymond Weil watches have always been influenced by the music industry, with watch collections named Amadeus, after the classical Austrian composer, Mozart and Fidelio -named after Beethoven’s only opera – Traviata or Saxo.
The Toccata and Fantasia collections are home to watches with a more cult-like status, while the Parsifal collection catered to the tastes of men and women alike. In 1999 the Swiss company opened its own Research and Development department which would be the home of exclusive technological advancements, and the place where a patented interchangeable bracelet system would be born.
High tech and practical, the Raymond Weil Freelancer watch featured the first-ever visible balance wheel upon the surface of its display. The collection is one of the most widely recognised worldwide, and its many variations offer a plethora of design options and materials to choose from. Classic lines, polished surfaces and complex functions feature throughout this remarkable collection. No two Freelancers are alike. Thus this diverse and incredibly versatile collection of timepieces is one of the most popular of Raymond Weil’s to date.
