More on OMEGA Manual Watches
OMEGA are amongst a few select luxury watch manufacturers who are renowned worldwide for their manual winding watches. Many will agree that every serous wristwatch collector should own at least one or two (if not more) manual watches in their collection, and what better manufacturer to invest in than globally-renowned Swiss watch company, OMEGA. The demand for a traditional manufactured manual winding watch has skyrocketed over the last couple of decades. Watch lovers are stripping their love for mechanical movements back to basics with a newfound interest in the craftsmanship behind a manually winding watch and the level of work involved in creating one of these instruments.
Designs like the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch “First Watch In Space” men's chronograph is a special edition watch which features inspirational design details taken from the original OMEGA watch worn by astronaut Wally Shirts when he orbited the earth during the “Sigma 7” mission. The black varnished dial features polished, luminous hands and hour markers that are protected underneath a sheet of anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. The internally fitted OMEGA Calibre 1861 Manual Watch performs effortlessly inside a solid case crafted from stainless steel. It can be wound via the crown at the 3 o’clock location.
The manufacturer has perfected the art of manual winding watch manufacture a long time ago, which is how they have come to create such an eclectic mix of styles and designs within this genre of watch. The company has experimented with materials, patented a few of their own features and incorporated their own in-house built mechanical movements into slim-built case designs to keep up with modern design.
Other OMEGA manual watches like the OMEGA Speedmaster “Dark Side of the Moon” Apollo 8 watch, oozes sporty elegance, and has been crafted from a black ceramic case with matching bezel and a tachymeter scale. The watch is a tribute timepiece which celebrates 50 years since man first saw the dark side of the room. OMEGA's masterpieces have always the number one choice for securing to the wrist whilst travelling, going for a run or socialising in, and special timepieces like this one highlight their versatility.
The OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo XVII Anniversary Edition Men’s watch is slightly more classic-looking, with its beautiful 18ct yellow gold casing encompassing a polished blue ceramic dial with matching yellow gold hands. The “05:34 GMT” lettering is imprinted onto the surface of the dial indicating the time that astronaut, Cernan made his final footsteps on the moon. Other decoration like the God Apollo and the moon etched in gold at 9 o’clock adds even more allure to the design, whilst inside the case lies the manual winding calibre 1861 chronograph. The movement features a rhodium plated finish and is completed with a 48 hour power reserve.
