The Panerai Radiomir watch collection took its name from the radium-based powder used to create the luminous dials. The Panerai Luminor collection has become known as the common identifier for their diving watch collection. Further diving watches can be found in the Panerai Submersible Collection. Over the years, the company has been dipping back into its archives to recreate many military-inspired models from the past, as well as to preserve their beautiful sleek designs as the Maison ventures forward.

Panerai Radiomir watches answered the needs of the Royal Italian Navy at a time when a robust, sturdy and powerful timepiece was essential to assist the seamen with legibility and accuracy in some of the most compromised weather conditions. Today the designs retain many of the same striking features, such as the rounded cushion-shaped cases, the simple, vast dial layouts and the hand-wound mechanical movement planted securely into the centre of the case.

Over the years, Officine Panerai has introduced the use of ceramic in some of their designs. The Panerai Radiomir 1940 marks the year of a new case design for this watch. With a more pronounced case and a cylindrical crown, the timepiece improved practical elements for the wearer, as well as providing underwater resistance.

The Panerai Luminor Watch Collection was developed and established after the Radiomir collection and introduced the use of different material, offering improved luminosity. The patented Luminor treatment is applied to elements on the dial to make it readable in underwater depths of 300 meters. The Panerai Luminor Power Reserve Automatic Acciaio 44mm watch, for example, features a polished steel case and a characteristic drawbridge, designed to protect the crown and enhance waterproof qualities. The design features a power reserve display at the 4:30 location, large Arabic numerals, a small seconds and a date display.

The Panerai Luminor Watch Collection has been developed with a case that is almost 40%  thinner than that of its predecessors. While the large dial and the cushion-shaped case are still present; these stunning timepieces evoke a somewhat sleeker feel upon the wrist. And, it is without a doubt that the Officine Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso is by far one of the most exquisite designs by the manufacturers to date. This watch design features a beautiful anthracite dial accompanied by elegant rose gold Arabic numerals and batons, as well as a set of golden central hands and a small second’s dial finished in the same material. A polished 18ct red gold bezel spans a diameter of 45mm across the wrist, and a classic black alligator strap effortlessly completes this magnificent timekeeping instrument.
