More on Stainless Steel Watches
Stainless steel Alpina watches also look great on the wrist. Whether the timepiece is fitted with a robust stainless steel link bracelet to match that of the watch’s case construction, or whether the watch has been executed on a classic black leather strap, watches made from steel will always donate a timeless style to any outfit. Stainless steel creates a fantastic silvery lustre against the skin, creating a sense of modern elegance when combined with smart or casual attire. Whilst some wristwatches from the luxury sector have been crafted from ceramic and titanium, many with 18ct white gold or rose gold decoration to further enhance an indulgent look - Alpina stainless steel watches keep things clean and simple. Stripping things back to basics the case constructions are executed in polished and brushed surface finishes, with bold pushers on the bezel of the chronograph models and a screw in caseback in some of the diver’s wristwatches. Sapphire crystal glass fronts and exhibition casebacks seal tightly to the curved edges of these steel cases. The glass created a window into a beautifully composed in-house developed mechanical movement, or a highly legible dial depending on which side of the watch is being admired.
The Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Big Date Chronograph is a stainless steel diver's companion equipped with a striking orange bezel to match the more discreet orange detailing inside the dial itself. The watch is quartz operated thus features a solid stainless steel caseback, whilst the front of the dial displays the time through luminous coated central sword-shaoed hands and chunky hour batons. The stainless steel casing spans a total of 44 millimetres across the wrist - a daring size but one that looks well balanced thanks to a broad black rubber strap with “Alpina” lettering embossed to the surface and stainless steel trimmings to match. The casing is also water resistant to 300 metre water depths – no mean feat for most wristwatches, but one that Alpina manage effortlessly.
The Alpina Startimer Pilot Chronograph model is another fine example of a stainless steel watch that, despite the profound rigidity and solidity of its metal casing, manages to retain an elegant and sophisticated look on the wrist. The chronograph watch is built for professional pilots as well as those gentlemen who enjoy the look of a daily timekeeping tool inspired by aviation aesthetics. The dial is clearly laid out and formal even though the technical mastery behind the manufacture of the watch and it’s movement is second to none.
