In 1957 Longines created the iconic Flagship watch. The design echoed many successfully characteristics from the brand’s past, yet also marked a time in their history where a new concept in watchmaking was adopted. The original Flagship watch was equipped with the 30L Calibre, built in 1955 and the watch soon became the beginning of Longines’ worldwide marketing campaign.
The launch of the Longines Flagship watch sparked the beginnings of a period in time that the brand devoted to refining their manufactured movements. Calibres that were specifically designed for certain wristwatches were tested beyond normal expectations to enable Longines to put their stamp on a quality and a reliability that remained unmatched within the luxury Swiss watch industry. Frequency of oscillations were increased to provide unbeatable precision, and the style of the Longines Flagship watch took on a sophistication and an elegance of its own. The design appealed to ladies and gentleman for its versatility if for nothing else, and to this day, watches from this collection are admired for their ability to transform from a day-to-day watch, into a stunning evening piece of jewellery.
Wearing a Longines Flagship watch allows the wearer to connect to the brand’s spirit and passion for luxury and opulence. Each element has been arranged on the dial with ultimate precision. A meticulous hand locates each component of the internal movement also, composing each component like a piece of music - tuning into the heart of the watch and perfecting every note before the finished piece goes on display through a sapphire crystal exhibition glass. For many watch lovers, having an open caseback is a particular advantage. It not only allows the individual a chance to watch the movement peerlessly performing, but allows a surrealist plunge into the art and the skill of Longines’ finest craftsmanship - skills of which they are most proud of. The glass is also treated with anti reflective and scratch resistant technology to allow for a clear insight into the lens, without any undesirable glare affecting the experience for the wearer.
Longines Flagships watches are available in a variety of different coloured dials. Some of the white dials have been combined with yellow gold accents to match polished bezels in a stunning yellow gold PVD finish and accompanying bi-colour bracelets. A date window is the only complication added to the dials of the Longines Flagship, positioned at the 3 o’clock location. Two of our most popular watches from this collection are the deep blue dial versions in a 26mm and a 36mm diameter. The lady’s and gent’s alternatives feature Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock for a unique touch - the 36mm version displaying a stunning day date function at 3 o’clock ,instead of the standard date aperture. The choice in such a feature equips the gentleman with a little added functionality to his timepiece, and has been dressed against a stark white background for optimum legibility.
