The Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock is a ground-breaking innovation as it has no external power source nor does it ever need to be powered by hand or by a weighted pendulum. Instead it gets its power from tiny changes in atmospheric temperature - hence its name. Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clocks work by winding the mainspring by the expansion and shrinking of an ethylene chloride gas-filled capsule which, in turn, moves a chain (fastened to the inner wall of the capsule) up and down. This precipitating motions winds the mainspring.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Phases de Lune clock is equipped with a small moon phase feature at 6 o'clock and a centrally located month counter.
